The revised ICAEW Code of Ethics, effective from 1 January 2020, contains new sections, introduced by IESBA, which examine what to do when a member suspects that an employer or client is not complying with legislation or regulations (NOCLAR). In essence, the new provisions require members to notify the issue within the employer or client and, if necessary, auditors. If the issue is not dealt with internally appropriately, members should consider whether disclosure to third parties is necessary in the public interest. Under these circumstances, members should make disclosure.
